The Pebble Smartwatch Gets Its Own Appstore

Running PebblePebble recently made some headlines (including here)for the release of a metal-encased version of their popular smartwatch. However, another recent development with the ubiquitous device stands to benefit new and current users alike: Pebble is going to launch their own Appstore.

There are reportedly thousands of apps ready to go in the store. The limited hardware in the Pebble (part of what helps it get that amazing battery life) means you can only have 8 apps available at any given time, but Pebble has developed a software solution to that problem as well. Dubbed “Locker,” it’s a piece of software that can store unused apps to be swapped onto the device later.

It’s a big deal. Pebble would be well-served to get out ahead in terms of functionality. Rumor has it there is some big competition ramping up in the space, and one of those competitors has a pretty popular App Store of their own.

Pebble raised over $10 million on Kickstarter and still stands as the most funded Kickstarter campaign of all-time.
