Gosnell Production Team Names Nick Searcy Director; Asks For More Funds

Ready to started on the film Gosnellthe production team of the highly anticipated Indiegogo-funded project has announced that Justified star, Nick Seary, has taken the role as its director.

Nick SearcyLast year, producer Phelim McAleer, and his wife, Ann McElhinney launched the campaign on the global crowdfunding platform, which aimed to produce a film that outlines the story of Dr. Gosnell’s crimes. He was convicted in May 2013 after being charged for late-term abortions and other medical misgivings. Some have called him the most “successful” serial killer in the history of the world.

During a recent update, the team announced:

“Nick Searcy, the popular television and film actor, has signed on to direct Gosnell.  This movie will tell the true story of America’s most prolific serial killer and will be produced thanks to our Indiegogo campaign and the great generosity of you — our 27, 046 individual donors!

“From the moment we told Nick Searcy about this project, he offered enthusiastic support and, as you know, recorded a video to help with the original fundraising campaign.

“Nick has just finished filming the sixth and final season of his hit cable show Justified and says that he is both excited and humbled by the opportunity to direct the Gosnell movie. We are delighted he has agreed to join the project because of his great talent and, just as importantly, because he cares so deeply about the story.

Gosnell Movie“Nick has said that he feels a great responsibility to you, our investors, to answer and explore three important aspects of the story: what really happened In that anonymous brick building in West Philadelphia, why was it allowed to happen, and most importantly, why did no one want to talk about it after it happened?

“Today, we are asking for your special support for Nick Searcy and Gosnell, by please making a second donation, if you can. Some of Nick’s first activities will be to cast actors, select locations and create the production schedule. A greater budget will allow us a longer shooting schedule, more locations and stronger actors. A greater budget will also let us tell more about the thousands of lives that were lost at the hand of Gosnell, and the redemption that was miraculously experienced by others.”

Despite raising over $2 million last year, the crew revealed that the production will need more funds:

“We plan to shoot in the summer, so in order to confirm our cast, our locations, and our schedule, we need to raise $500,000 by May 14th 2015.”
