UK’s Savvy Overfunds on Crowdcube; Seeks to Expand Its Food Preserve Brand

Savvy Foods 4

Earlier this month, Sheffield, South Yorkshire-based Savvy Foods took to equity crowdfunding platform Crowdcube with a mission to raise 50,000 for its preserved spreads brand.

Savvy Foods 5The brand, which was launched in 2013 by Jonathan Drury and Katie Owens, is described as a delicious and nutritious food source, designed as the perfect breakfast and snacking food and a much healthier sweet spread option.

The company revealed:

“We an ethical company and to the best of our knowledge the first to combine carob and date syrups with sesame and other super-foods. We believe we’re providing a dynamic solution towards public demand for innovation in the sweet spreads market, as well as a seriously ailing national health.”

Sharing details about the brand’s history, the Savvy crew explained:

Savvy Foods 3“The Savvy range was inspired by a time-honored sweet dip of tahini and carob syrup, which our founder Jonathan fell in love with while exploring Turkey in the ‘90’s. Carob (Ceratonia siliqua) was revered by many ancient cultures for its energy-enhancing and even medicinal properties.  He brought the recipe home, sharing it with friends and family led to experiments with other ingredients such as honey, spices, cocoa and dates and Savvy was born.”

The company also shared that its product can be used anywhere as a spread from toast to the kids’ sandwiches as well as in porridge, on ice cream, in baking and straight off the spoon.  It is currently available in three great flavors; the taste-award-winning Date; smooth and super Chocolate; and original Carob & Honey.

Funds from the campaign will be used for the following:

  • Savvy Foods 2Scale up production and develop many more unique new products including an organic range (most of our ingredients already are organic)
  • Create new flavours and formats.
  • Pay a salesperson to join our amazing team and raise brand awareness with an exciting marketing campaign.

While discussing the crowdfunding campaign, Drury told the Sheffield Telegraph:

“This is a great opportunity to be part of a great story and contribute to our county’s growing international food reputation.”

Owens added:

“If you haven’t invested before you’ll be surprised how easy it is… and your money might well earn more than storing it anywhere else.”

Since its launch, the Savvy Food campaign has surpassed its initial goal. It is set to close in mid-August.
