Torquing Group Announces: The First Few Units of Zano Have Been Shipped

Zano Kickstarter backers, great news! The long wait for the nano drone, Zano is finally almost over. Torquing Group, the company behind the nano drone, announced on Friday that it has shipped the first few units. This news comes just three months after the original June 2015 estimated delivery date.

Zano 1The Zano, which was on the crowdfunding giant’s platform from  is smart because you “task it” as opposed to flying the device.  The small package hides a ton of tech including wifi, HD camera, GPS, Barometric Pressure reader, IR Obstacle avoidance, image stabilization, and more.   And everything fits in the palm of your hand.  The algos are designed to adjust for wind too – with the ability to reverse motors from one direction to the next in less than 200 miliseconds. That’s fast.  Is it resilient?

Well the creators stated they have done the free fall test with the prototype and it has held up pretty well.  Zano is programmed to avoid such situations – but we all know collisions eventually will occur. The drone topped Hexo+, another highly popular drone project, to become the most funded drone on Kickstarter ever.

During a recent update, Torquing announced:

Zano 2“Good news (for those who might not be aware) the test rig is up and fully operational and we have begun the process of testing the different features of each ZANO. The first few units will be leaving today (already packed and delivery booked), and another 10 will follow suit. We will then work through the rest of the 100 that we have here and beyond that, the bulk will come from our EMS provider.

“We’ve also developed new propellers with the intention of being more befitting of the capabilities that ZANO is designed to provide. These will help to offset some of the flight time lost due to the increase in ZANO’s weight. The new propellers will be provided to all backers as standard. We are expecting to receive the propellers the week commencing 14th September, so it is anticipated that shipping will begin on the 18th September for all Kickstarter rewards and Pre-orders.”

Zano 3The company then added details about the drone’s app:

“The Android App will be available to download from Google Play Store in the next seven days, development of the iOS is still continuing and we hope this will be available by the end of month but we will keep you updated with its progression!”
