Ready to introduce their latest Nanoleaf project, Toronto-based inventors Gimmy Chu, Tom Rodinger, and Christain Yan have launched a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo to raise funds for their voice-controlling light system, Nanoleaf Smarter Kit.
The trio, who are self-proclaiming “tree-huggers” previously turned to Kickstarter for their projects but decided to try a different route by choicing the crowdfunding platform’s competitor.
The Nanoleaf Smarter Kit includes the following:
- One dodecahedron-inspired Nanoleaf Smart Hub (Supports up to 50 bulbs)
- Two exquisitely-engineered Nanoleaf Smart Ivy Light Bulbs
Chu, Rodinger, and Yan proclaimed:
“Ever find it too difficult to leave your cozy bed just to turn off your lights? Do you have a light switch at a hard to reach place? Or do you simply wish you can make things happen just with the sound of your voice? We believe that connected devices are meant to make your life better and easier, that’s why we created the Nanoleaf Smarter Kit – smart lighting you can control using Siri.”
The team stated that through the Nanoleaf Smarter app, users can easily name bulbs, assign bulbs to rooms, and create scenes. The Nanoleaf light bulbs can be dimmed down to as low as 1% and turned up 100% to a crisp illumination equivalent to a 60W incandescent bulb.
Setting up the lightbulbs is super simple:
Step 1. Screw in the lights
Step 2. Plug in the hub to a router
Step 3. Download the app on your iPhone or iPad and follow the instructions.
It was also noted that Android support coming in early-2016. It will be as a software update to the hub, which we can do remotely as long as the hub is connected to the Internet. No additional cost, no additional hardware needed.
Indiegogo backers can receive the Nanoleaf Smarter Kit starting at $89. They may also receive the Smarter Kit with 2 extra Ivy for $139 and the Smarter Designers’ Deluxe for $239.
The campaign is set to close at the end of November.
