With each passing year, the import and expectation of Mother’s Day seem to mushroom. While most young mothers would be happy to enjoy the day in blissful solitude, most contemporary wisdom indicates otherwise. Older mothers may expect more after all those Sundays grinning while eating charred toast and watery, tepid tea: they want their children to visit the nest and celebrate together.
