Zucla, a London-based restaurant that creates fresh and healthy tailored lunches, launched a Crowdcube campaign and raised £150,390 from 34 investors while in a private mode. The company originally sought to raise £90,000.

zucla-1Since its debut in January 2016, Zucla has severed more than 40,000 lunches The restaurant currently offers a large variety from three zones, wok/stir-fry, curry, and salads, at its Fleet St. London location. It was noted:

The modern professional sacrifices nutritional food for convenience. They work hard, play hard, but often eat unhealthily due to time pressures. For many, lunch is often a microwave meal or a sandwich, eaten at a desk. Zucla is questioning the lunch status quo – Zucla serves ‘real food’ to people who care about what they eat! Fresh, healthy food cooked right in front of you in our theatre kitchen. Each of our dishes can be tailored and served in minutes.”

The Zucla team noted that they recognize social responsibility and minimizes waste and uses locally sourced, imperfect, or organic ingredients. They alsoT stated it has seen revenue growth of 14% month on month from January to July 2016. It plans to open two more sites within twelve months of closing the Crowdcube initiative.

With 2 sites up and running we see sales projections for year-end 2017 over £1.1m having served over 200,000 lunches. Our three-year outlook is to create eight sites in total.”

Zucla’s team noted that they will use the funds to open a second site and they are planning to fund the third site from retained earnings. It will either lease or use bank loans. The Crowdcube initiative is set to close mid-November.
