To Celebrate All that They Do: A Crowdsourced Mother’s Day

Treat you mama blo blow dry barWith each passing year, the import and expectation of Mother’s Day seem to mushroom. While most young mothers would be happy to enjoy the day in blissful solitude, most contemporary wisdom indicates otherwise.  Older mothers may expect more after all those Sundays grinning while eating charred toast and watery, tepid tea: they want their children to visit the nest and celebrate together.

Today’s mothers with younger children, however, may appreciate a little something more than the tried and true breakfast in bed routine.  In a two-mother home, a little more pressure about the special day may be added to the mix to when children attempt to surprise both mothers.  This article provides some solutions  from the crowdfunding community to help this Mother’s Day be a crowdsourced celebration.  A plethora of fantastic equity and rewards-based campaigns currently seek funding; some investments may even be written off!

Let’s start with tickets.  Currently, the Globe Theatre’s homage to celebrate William Shakespeare’s 450 birthday needs funding.  Why not pledge to the Global Hamlet campaign on Kickstarter and see Shakespeare’s production on a remote island in the South Seas next winter?  Or, if your loved one is a film buff, pledge $10,000 to the James White Kickstarter film campaign, and enjoy life in the limelight as VIP guests at the film’s premiere. This new feature from Borderline Films, starring Christopher Abbott, Cynthia Nixon, and Scott “Kid Cudi” Mescudi, analyzes the frenetic coming of age story about a young New Yorker struggling to take control of his reckless, self destructive behavior in the face of momentous family challenges.  To date, the Brooklyn-based film campaign has exceeded its goal by nearly $8K raising $57,557 with hours remaining until its close.  Impromptu parenting discussions will surely follow the film!  If seeing a film, snacking on popcorn and slurpees seems more in line with the special mother’s schedule, DealFlicks offers many discounted film packages.  To date, DealFlick’s wefunder campaign has raised $1,564,000 in funding.
